The Sisters of Book Row
Shelley Noble
This novel is based on an interesting piece of New York City history that I knew nothing about. It's 1915 and citizens of NYC are under constant threat of arrest due to the Comstock Act. It might not be every citizen in danger, but one never knows when those that uphold the law will deem that you are in violation. Of course, I had to do a deeper dive and discovered this is a zombie law -- still on the books, but not acted upon. In the state of our country now, I wonder if someone will decide to take it off the inactive list and decide to enforce it. Have I peaked your curiosity and are you now going to look up what the Comstock Act is?

Animal Farm
George Orwell
While I probably read this as a child, I am glad that I read it now as an adult as I am sure I can appreciate more of the aspects of the story now. I enjoyed how each group of animals had a dominant trait that allowed the story to progress. My favorite part was how the rules that were painted on the barn wall would gradually change to favor those who were in charge. A good but frightening tale.

The Plot
Jean Hanff Korelitz
There is just something about this book I did not like. I’m not sure if it was the writing, which was flat and took way too many words to explain things, or if it was simply the plot, no pun intended. It’s about a writer who takes someone’s idea for a story. But I found the events predictable and frankly was glad when the book was done.

The Associate
John Grisham
This was my first book by Grisham, and at first I did not like it. It seemed like it was going to be a sad, dark story. But THEN it got going and you start to see how this new young lawyer who was being blackmailed is really going to turn the tables and have the upper hand. A really good read with an ending that will leave you thinking.

The Catch
Yrsa Daley-Ward
Even if my life depended on it, I would still be hard pressed to explain what this book was about. There are two sisters who are twins. They are nothing alike and hate each other…except when they don’t. Their mother is dead…or is she? One sister, who is an author, wrote a book about her life with her mother…or did the dead mother write the book? Then at the very, very end of the book, it seems like the sisters’ band together to go back in time to sop their mom and dad from having sex so that they are not born. They want to do this because their lives are so terrible. ??? Not a short book and definitely not worth the time.

The Midnigt Train
Matt Haig
This was a delightful book about a man re-examining portions of his life, the parts that meant the most.

Chasing the clouds away
Debbie macomber
The book is OK I know she is one of the top authors. There’s a lot of typos in the book. It gets a little boring from time to time, but I can’t seem to put it down so that’s a good sign
