I think it had a lot of interesting points to make about the nature of humanity, gender, and civilization, but it was also very depressing and purposefully leaves you with many unanswered questions.

This is a haunting tale about the few remaining remnants of a family after a mass murder. But a mass murder committed by Whom? And way do they remain so secluded only to embrace the presence of an obscure relative? This story wonderfully raised more questions than it answers.

A MM romance with Hudson, a hockey player who has been switched teams a lot and who doesn't make connections with people well has a one night stand with Gavin, who turns out to be a single dad athletic trainer with his new team. Hudson struggles with not knowing how to settle down with someone he might like, coming out as bisexual, and dealing with his pushy sports agent dad. Gavin worries about what his daughter will think and whether his job will be at risk if the team finds out they are dating. The characters are well developed and their concerns are completely understandable, but the book still winds up with a well done HEA.

Dead Sleep

In this story about women who go missing and then have their dead images appear in paintings, Isles does an excellent job in developing the characters and their connections to one another. And this is important because the subject matter here is often harsh and without this development of characters, it would simply be a brutal story. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time and liked the ending.
